soundings

web, video, sound (2020)

Sounding: noun

  1. the action or process of measuring the depth of the sea or other body of water.

  2. information or evidence ascertained as a preliminary step before deciding on a course of action.

This is a time for considering how we navigate the depths. What is it that we hold to remain buoyant and able to act in a temporality that doesn’t diminish the spirit, the intuitive?

Soundings is an explicit invitation to make that space, hone it. Soundings centers the work of Black Feminist poets, Audre Lorde, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, and Claudia Rankin. These are the texts that I return to, that feed me, that make each day more livable. The full project was hosted as a limited run by Kunsthalle Amsterdam.

In collaboration with Loren Britton. Programming support from Karl Tryggvason. Curated by Miriam Wistreich for Kunsthalle Amsterdam.
